Cricket World Cup 2011 – Grand Finale

Finally, India has won the Cricket World Cup 2011 in the final against Sri Lanka… India has proved their strength to be Champion in batting, bowling & fielding as well! Chasing for target of 275, lost 2 early wickets of Sehwag & Sachin but Gautam Gambhir & MS Dhoni played an excellent innings to reach the target quite comfortably. India won the cricket world cup after 28 years and the celebration was on the heights of madness around the country! So Congrats to Team India for this great achievement in history of World Cricket!

Cricket World Cup 2011 – Last Quarter Final Match

England was smashed out of the World Cup ’11 by Sri Lanka and reserves their place in semi finals to play against New Zealand on 29 March 2011 at Colombo. Sri Lanka won the match by 10 wickets easily and is strong side to win World Cup this year!

Cricket World Cup 2011 - Quarter Final Match Update

Champions are out the world cup and it was the biggest disappointment for Australian captain Ricky Ponting as it might be the last cricket world cup he would be playing for his team. India played extremely well in all ways till end and made their way thru Semi Finals against Pakistan. Yuvraj Singh again performed as all rounder and got India a historical win by defending 3 times world champions.

South Africa continues their tradition to get out of World cup before finals… New Zealand marched to Semi finals with the victory by 49 runs. Though Kiwis has not scored high but their confidence and performance in all the areas gave them way into semis!

Quarter Finals are started and the best selected teams will battle to get thru the semi finals and then the Big Finale… Pakistan crushed West Indies by 10 Wickets in the first match of quarter final. Pakistan had the hold on the match from the beginning by allowing WI to score only 112 Runs which was a very easy chase for the Pakistani batsman! Attacking bowling played an important role to book their berth into the Semi Finals…

South Africa & Pakistan entered in quarter finals with the easy win against Ireland & Zimbabwe respectively. Netherlands was not able to get a victory against Bangladesh and lost the match by 6 wickets. Jean-Paul Duminy missed his century by single run and it was big disappointment of the match though he was announced as Man of the Match!

Indians are on the Top in point table for Group B, after the victory against Netherlands by 5 wickets. Also, Sri Lanka defeated Zimbabwe by 139 Runs with the all rounder performance by Tillakaratne Dilshan. Entire game was ruled by Dilshan as he took 4 wickets and scored 144 runs. Netherlands has played a bit good but was not at the level that they can defeat the current top team in test cricket.

It was a big upset for this World Cup when Ireland won against England chasing the highest score in World Cup of 329 runs. Ireland has made number of records with this win and proved their ability same as they have done in last world cup against Pakistan. Kevin O'Brien made fastest century of World Cup and played and excellent innings of 113 runs. It was a great match to watch Irish players with confidence and winning attitude…In other match, Sri Lanka won quite comfortably as expected at their home ground.

It seems as the matches are going ahead excitement is getting doubled. Match 10 & 11 both were the high voltage matches as opponents were with equal strength of strong batting line up and best bowling options. Common point of both matches was performance from man of the match; Captains. Afridi has broken the batting line up of Sri Lankan batsmen and won the match while Strauss boosted on Indian bowlers and played a great captain innings, but unfortunately match was Tie. Little Master, Sachin Tendulkar scored his century and played an excellent innings of 120 in 115 balls.
